Information in the search results

What you should know

For normal entries, WebTerm shows the source and target-language terms in the search results:

Displaying subentries

An entry may contain what are know as "subentries" for such items as an abbreviation for the main entry, for instance. The subentries have a defined relationship to the main entry.

WebTerm displays subentries as well as the main entry:

Fig. 4-8: The entry file allocation table has the subentry FAT

WebTerm recognises the following subentry types:

Display of additional data record fields

Depending on configuration, WebTerm can also display more data record fields:

Whether and which additional data record fields are displayed is determined by the administrator in the WebTerm administration.

Display of multimedia files

Depending on configuration, WebTerm can display the Graphic/Video/Sound header field with buttons for viewing or playing multimedia files:

You have the following options:

If you hover the mouse pointer over a button without clicking it, WebTerm shows the name of the multimedia file (see illustration above).

If you click the button, WebTerm opens the file or launches a program that can play the file.

File formats supported

The multimedia file formats that WebTerm can open/play depend on the configuration of your browser and your computer.

If a multimedia file type cannot be opened/played, you may need to install additional programs or plug-ins.

Size of multimedia files

For multimedia files to be viewed/played, they have to be downloaded onto your local computer via your Internet connection.

Please note that multimedia files can be very large. Depending on the file size and the speed of the Internet connection, downloading make take some time.

Whether or not the Graphics/video/sound header field is displayed is specified by the administrator on the WebTerm administration interface.

Cross-reference to main entry

In the case of subentries (e.g. a synonym or an abbreviation) WebTerm shows a cross-reference to the main entry rather than a translation:

Fig. 4-11: FAT offers a cross-reference to the main entry file allocation table

If you click on the source-language term, WebTerm displays the data record details of the main entry (see Step 3).
