Quality assurance while editing

What you should know

For the purposes of quality assurance, the terminology administrator can define values lists and input verifications to prevent invalid or incomplete entries and increase the consistency of the terminology.

An input verification may be one of the following:

A fixed value

You can only enter that value. WebTerm rejects all other values.

Regular expression

You can enter any value which matches the regular expression. WebTerm rejects all other values.

This allows you to specify a range of permitted values.

Permitting or disallowing blank fields

It is also possible to specify whether a field must always be completed or whether it can be left blank.

In that way it is possible to ensure that all required information is always entered.

Values list

Values lists make it easier to enter field values and simultaneously ensure consistency across dictionaries. You can select predefined values from a list instead of entering values manually.

Values lists offer the following options:

Hierarchical structure

Values lists can be divided in to multiple hierarchical levels.

Example:

Hardware
Software
- User applications
- Operating system
- Drivers
- System applications

Single or multiple selection

Depending on the type of values list, you may be able to select only one or multiple values from the list.

Editable values lists

Depending on the type of values list, you may or may not be able to modify the values on the list.

Input verification messages

If an entry you make does not correspond to the input verification rules, WebTerm displays the Input verification failed message together with the corresponding field name and error:

<Field name> must not be blank.

You must complete this field. However, you have attempted to save the data record without completing the field.

<Field name> does not match regular expression

The field content must match to a certain regular expression. However, you have attempted to save the data record with field contents that do not match the regular expression.

Selecting from a values list

If a values list has been defined for a field, WebTerm displays the Edit button next to the field.

How to select from a values list:

1 To open the values list, click the Edit button next to the field.

WebTerm shows the following window listing the possible values:

Fig. 10-11: Hierarchical values list

For hierarchical values lists, WebTerm shows the available choices as a tree structure. In order to expand or collapse an item, click the + or - sign accordingly.

2 Select the required items.

If the values list does not allow multiple selection, you can only select one item: as soon as you select one item, WebTerm will deselect any other item you may have selected.

If you want to clear all selections, click Deselect all . You can also use the same button to leave the field blank.

3 Confirm your choice by clicking OK .

WebTerm closes the window. You can now edit the other fields in Edit mode.
