Viewing multimedia files

A data record may contain multimedia files which illustrate the meaning of the term (e.g. images, video clips or sound files).

If that is the case, WebTerm displays buttons for viewing or playing the various types of multimedia file in the data record details for the header:

Fig. 7-4: WebTerm shows various buttons for opening/playing multimedia files

For details of the buttons, please refer to Table 11-3.

You can use the Details view menu to specify whether WebTerm displays the header, and if so, which fields are shown. If WebTerm does not display the Graphics/Video/Sound header field, check the appropriate setting (see the section "Displaying the header").

You have the following options:

If you hover the mouse pointer over a button without clicking it, WebTerm shows the name of the multimedia file (see illustration above).

If you click the button, WebTerm opens the file or launches a program that can play the file.

File formats supported

The multimedia file formats that WebTerm can open/play depend on the configuration of your browser and your computer.

If a multimedia file type cannot be opened/played, you may need to install additional programs or plug-ins.

Size of multimedia files

For multimedia files to be viewed/played, they have to be downloaded onto your local computer via your Internet connection.

Please note that multimedia files can be very large. Depending on the file size and the speed of the Internet connection, downloading make take some time.
