When you add new terminology, you must make a decision:
If you wish to add a new semantic unit you should create a new data record (see here).
If you want to add a new linguistic equivalent to an existing semantic unit, then add a new entry to an existing data record (see here). That new entry must have the same meaning as the other entries in the data record concerned.
If you require more information about the structure of data records and entries, read the section "Data records and entries".
If you wish to add a new semantic unit you create a new data record.
1 To do so, click the New data record button.
If you are allowed to edit more than one dictionary, WebTerm displays the following window:
2 Select the dictionary which you want WebTerm to add the new data record to.
If you have access to more than one database, WebTerm also shows the name of the database in which the dictionary is stored.
3 Confirm your choice by clicking OK .
WebTerm displays a new blank data record on the Details panel with one entry each in the source and target languages. In addition, WebTerm switches to Edit mode so that you can edit the field contents.
4 You can now edit the data record as described in the section "Working in edit mode".
Enter the source language (and if necessary the target language) term in the correct fields.
5 To exit Edit mode and save your changes, click the
Accept
button.
To exit Edit mode without saving your changes, click the Cancel button.
If you accept the changes, WebTerm saves the changed data record to the database.
If you wish to add a new translation for an existing semantic unit you add a new entry to the data record concerned.
1 Open the data record you require in Edit mode:
To do so, click the source-language term on the Search & Find panel. WebTerm shows the data record details.
Click the Edit button on the Details panel.
WebTerm switches to Edit mode so that you can edit the data record.
2 To add a new entry, click the New entry button.
WebTerm then displays the following window:
3 Select the language in which you want WebTerm to add the new entry.
Confirm your choice by clicking OK .
WebTerm displays a new blank entry on the Details panel.
4 You can now edit the entry as described in Section "Working in edit mode".
Enter the term for the new entry in the correct field (and any other information you wish).
5 To exit Edit mode and save your changes, click the
Accept
button.
To exit Edit mode without saving your changes, click the Cancel button.
If you accept the changes, WebTerm saves the changed data record to the database.
If you want to save synonyms or abbreviations for an entry, and you want WebTerm to store them in the dictionary as well, you can add subentries. WebTerm attaches these subentries to the entry -- they each have their own Term entry field (see also Fig. Abb. 2-3:).
WebTerm displays those subentries with an automatic cross-reference to the main entry that they belong to (see here).
Proceed as follows to add a subentry:
1 Open the data record you require in Edit mode:
To do so, click the source-language term on the Search & Find panel. WebTerm shows the data record details.
Click the Edit button on the Details panel.
WebTerm switches to Edit mode so that you can edit the data record.
2 Open the entry to which you want to add a subentry. To do so, click on the arrowhead on the left of the 3-letter language code for the entry. A list of the language codes can be found in the section "3-letter language code".
WebTerm displays the Add button at the end of the entry and a list of the possible subentry types:
3 Choose the type of subentry from the list.
4 Click on Add to add the subentry.
WebTerm displays a new blank subentry comprising the fields Term , Grammatical info and Status at the end of the entry.
5 Enter the term for the new entry in the correct field.
6 If necessary, fill the other fields in the subentry.
7 To exit Edit mode and save your changes, click the
Accept
button.
To exit Edit mode without saving your changes, click the Cancel button.
If you accept the changes, WebTerm saves the changed data record to the database.
