Using the Comments list

Displaying the comment list

WebTerm displays all comments and requests that are stored in the database in the Comments list (see here). If comments and requests are only sent as e-mails, you cannot use the Comments list.

To view the Comments list:

1 Click the Comments list button on the toolbar.

WebTerm displays the Comments list on the Search & Find panel:

Fig. 9-3: The Comments list details all public requests and comments

On the Languages menu you can specify which requests and comments are listed (see here).

If you are an administrator, WebTerm shows you private requests and comments as well, and you can also delete them (see here).

2 To view the details of the data record to which a comment relates, click the comment title on the Comments list.

WebTerm then shows the details of the data record and the comment relating to it on the Details panel.

Please refer to the section "Information in the comment details" for more detailed information on the structure of the comment details.

Information on the Comments list

On the Comments list WebTerm details the following information:

First line - 3-letter language code and term proposed or commented on

WebTerm identifies the languages by their 3-letter language codes (see Section "3-letter language code").

If WebTerm indicates All instead of a 3-letter language code, the comment relates to all languages of an existing data record.

Second line - dictionary to which the comment or request relates

Third line - language and entry term selected by the author (does not appear in the case of new terminology requests)

Last line - comment or additional remarks, e.g. reason for the request

WebTerm shows requests in red.

Examples:

Request for a new data record

Fig. 9-4: The author has requested a new semantic unit "DVD drive"

Request for an additional entry in an existing data record

Fig. 9-5: The author has requested the additional entry "Rechner" in the existing data record

Specifying the type of comment to be displayed

On the Languages menu you can specify which requests and comments are shown in the Comments list:

All comments - all comments and requests regardless of source or target language

For source language - only comments relating to the current source language

For target language - only comments relating to the current target language

For source & target - only comments relating to the current source or target language

Terminology requests - only requests for new terminology, i.e. no request or comments relating to existing data records

If this function is not displayed

If WebTerm does not show this function, that means that you do not have the necessary user permissions to use it (see here). Please contact your administrator for further assistance.

To specify the type of comments to be displayed proceed as follows:

1 Open the Languages menu on the Settings panel:

Fig. 9-7: You use the Languages menu to specify which comments are listed

2 From the Comments list drop-down list, select the type of comment to be displayed.

You can specify the source and target languages on the same menu using the Source language and Target language lists.

If at any time you want to swap the source and target languages, click the Swap languages button.

WebTerm will use the new settings the next time you open the Comments list.

You can save the settings you have made so that WebTerm automatically uses them the next time you log in. To do so, click the Save button (see here).

Fig. 9-8: WebTerm shows data record and comment details

WebTerm displays the data record details in the upper part of the Details panel. Section 7 "Using data record details" explains how to work with data record details.

In the lower section of the Details panel WebTerm shows all the comments on the selected data record detailing the following information:

First line

3-letter language code and term proposed or commented on

WebTerm identifies the languages by their 3-letter language codes (see Section "3-letter language code").

If WebTerm indicates All instead of a 3-letter language code, the comment relates to all languages of the data record.

Comment author

If you click on the name of the author, WebTerm opens your default e-mail program so that you can send the author an e-mail. WebTerm uses the e-mail address that the author entered in the Comments window.

Comment status

WebTerm indicates whether a comment is public or private and whether a new data record has been requested as follows:

-/- Public comment

-/X Public terminology request

X/- Private comment

X/X Private terminology request

Second line - comment or additional remarks, e.g. reason for the request

WebTerm shows requests in red.

Third line - date and time that the comment was sent
