Cross-references are easy to create and make terminology much easier to find. WebTerm even generates a large number of the cross-references automatically.
WebTerm supports various types of cross-reference:
Automatically-generated cross-references for subentries
The easiest way of creating cross-references is by using subentries. You simply add a subentry (see here).
WebTerm displays every term in a subentry as a separate item in the dictionary - with a cross-reference to the term in the main entry (see here).
In this field, you can enter one or more entry terms to which you wish to cross-reference (see the section "Working with cross-reference fields").
Apart from referencing other terms, you can also create references to Internet addresses (see the section "Cross-reference to Internet address").
Each entry contains the Cross-reference field. WebTerm formats any value you enter in this field as a cross-reference. When you click on this field, WebTerm displays the relevant term in the dictionary.
The entry field Cross-reference must be displayed![]() In order that you can work with the cross-reference field, it must be displayed. If WebTerm does not display the Cross-reference field, check the relevant settings on the Details view menu (see the section "Customising Details view"). |
How to work with cross-reference fields:
1 Open the data record you require in Edit mode:
To do so, click the source-language term on the Search & Find panel. WebTerm shows the data record details.
Click the Edit button on the Details panel.
WebTerm switches to Edit mode so that you can edit the data record.
2 Open the entry to which you want to add a cross-reference. To do so, click on the arrowhead next to the 3-letter language code for the entry.
3 In the Cross-reference field, enter the term which you want to create a cross-reference to.
Make sure that you enter the term precisely as it is written in the cross-reference target. We advise you to use the copy/paste function -- in this way, you can avoid errors!
4 If you wish to enter several cross-references, separate these with a cross-reference separator (usually a semicolon).
5 To exit Edit mode and save your changes, click the
Accept
button.
To exit Edit mode without saving your changes, click the Cancel button.
If you accept the changes, WebTerm saves the changed data record to the database.
You can also create an Internet link in the Cross-reference field. When you click on such a cross-reference, your Internet browser opens the web page concerned.
To create a cross-reference to an Internet address, begin the cross-reference with the following expression: http://www
